Granada Coating is now GSPP certified

Granada Coating obtains GSPP certification for tomato seed processing and treatment

Granada Coating, a Spanish company specialising in seed technology with 29 years of experience, has obtained GSPP (Good Seed and Plant Practices) certification for the processing and treatment of tomato seeds.

This certification enables Granada Coating to provide specialised tomato seed treatment services within GSPP-certified processes, including VIGORSEM® seed priming and GRAKOTE® seed pelleting for tomato rootstock seeds, while maintaining GSPP traceability throughout the treatment process.

What is GSPP certification for tomato seeds?

GSPP (Good Seed and Plant Practices) is an international standard designed to reduce the risk of contamination of tomato seeds and plants by Clavibacter michiganensis, the bacterium responsible for bacterial canker of tomato.

The GSPP standard establishes strict requirements for hygiene, prevention and process control for companies involved in the processing and handling of tomato seeds and plants.

Obtaining this certification represents an important milestone for Granada Coating and reinforces its ability to provide specialised seed technology services in line with internationally recognised requirements.

“Achieving GSPP certification is an important step for Granada Coating. It allows us to combine our experience in seed technology with internationally recognised requirements for hygiene, prevention and process control. This will allow our international customers to keep the GSPP traceability on their seeds after being treated at our company,” says Jose Salguero, General Manager of Granada Coating.

GSPP-certified priming and pelleting for tomato rootstock seeds

Under its GSPP-certified processes, Granada Coating can now provide two of its specialised seed enhancement services for tomato rootstock seeds:

  • VIGORSEM® seed priming is designed to improve germination speed, homogeneity in seed germination and uniformity of plant seedlings.
  • GRAKOTE® seed pelleting improves seed handling and sowing precision, facilitating the management of seeds during the sowing process.

Both seed treatment services can now be carried out for tomato rootstock seeds while maintaining GSPP traceability.

Specialised seed technology for international seed companies

For seed companies, seed treatment involves not only achieving the desired technical performance but also ensuring appropriate control over how seeds are handled throughout the process.

“Seed companies need not only effective seed enhancement solutions, but also confidence in how their seeds are handled throughout the process. This certification strengthens our commitment to providing specialised, reliable services adapted to the requirements of the international seed industry,” adds Salguero.

Granada Coating has been working in seed technology since 1997, providing specialised services to companies in the seed industry. Its technological solutions include VIGORSEM® priming, GRAKOTE® pelleting, film coating, encrusting, and other seed conditioning and treatment services.

The GSPP certification for tomato seed processing and treatment represents another step in Granada Coating’s commitment to specialised seed technology, process control and services adapted to the requirements of the international vegetable seed industry.
